![]() With the amiibo figurine brand, Nintendo entered the toy and collectors markets at a time when they needed revenue due to the failure of the Wii U. While Nintendo has been very selective in how they implement their Intellectual Properties (IP’s) from the 1990’s through the early 2010’s, the company has recently shown a great deal of interest in expanding to new audiences and markets. Some analysts and fans still believe this disastrous experience with Hollywood contributed to Nintendo’s rigid attitude toward expanding its franchises into film and television markets. The film was a critical and commercial failure, and the project hurt the Mario brand. Many people attribute Nintendo’s long-term hesitancy to their experience in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, including Nintendo’s frustrating experience with the disastrous Super Mario Bros. While many entertainment companies have expressed interest in adapting brands like Metroid and Zelda to film and television, Nintendo has rarely allowed other companies use its characters in other mediums. Why Now? - Nintendo Wants To Introduce Its IP’s To Larger, Wider Audiencesįor much of the past two decades, Nintendo has been extremely restrictive with how it allows other companies to use its intellectual properties. Additionally, it will explore why Princess Zelda would be a great protagonist for such a program and identify potential eras in the Zelda timeline for it to explore. This article will go through the reasons why now is the time to create a Zelda show and explore how Netflix’s The Dragon Prince could be an excellent model for the tone and presentation of the show. A Zelda-themed animated show could bring the series to a wider audience and fulfill the dreams of many fans across the world. TBH it kinda turned me off to the show.With Nintendo finally beginning to show interest in expanding its products to new audiences (as shown by the impending Illumination Mario film), it is now the perfect time for an animated Zelda show. It's done for foreign language all the time and everyone who's watching presumably has eyeballs so why leave out the vast majority of the viewing audience in that way. Speaking of inclusiveness, I wish they would be more inclusive and subtitle the signing parts, where Gren isn't interpreting, without having to flip a switch.
