![]() ![]() How did we get here? In the first season episode where we get her backstory-and her pregnancy diagnosis-we learn that Cassie's propensity for falling hard for men comes from her deep seated daddy issues, after her father abandoned her family following a split with her mom, a car accident, and a painkiller addiction. ![]() And then, at Maddy's birthday party last week, Cassie, jealous, gets trashed and pukes in a hot tub, while wearing an underboob revealing bathing suit. In the montage, she attacks her face more violently every time we see her repeat her routine. Levinson has documented Cassie waking up in the dark of morning for a laborious beauty ritual that culminates in her dressing in increasingly outlandish outfits in order to impress Nate. It's a cherry on top of the shit sundae that has been her arc, which opened with her drunk, quivering behind a shower curtain while Maddy peed. In an hour that's almost unbearably tense, Cassie is the comic relief. Sweeney's eyes grow big, as Demie waves her tentacle-like nails in her face. Maddy, predictably, goes apeshit, and Cassie, panicked, tries to lie. So she turns the attention on Cassie, telling everyone gathered that Cassie is having sex with Nate. Cassie's mother (Alanna Ubach) takes her in, but when Rue's mom (Nika King) shows up, Rue starts looking for a way out. But as the season progresses it's getting harder not to feel like those punchlines are at her expense, turning Cassie into a flattened cartoon and using Sweeney's talent for cruel laughs.Īs Rue tries to escape from a trip to rehab she stops at Cassie's house for refuge. She nails her character's frantic panic and kills the punchlines writer-creator Sam Levinson gives for her. It's work that's both easily meme-able-see, for instance, the image of her hiding in the tub her shocked face that she looks like a character from Oklahoma!-and very funny. She's Gena Rowlands-esque as a woman on the verge of a breakdown, her eyes almost always wet with tears while she fights off her inner demons while trying to hide her new relationship with Nate (Jacob Elordi), the ex of her best friend Maddy (Alexa Demie). Sweeney is giving a towering performance this season as Cassie, the bombshell with a heart of gold who has endured slut shaming and a broken home. No, we can't make it through an episode of this show without the ritual humiliation of Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney. But for a brief moment the attention turns to another character. ![]() Fez appeared to be headed to jail at the very least, which meant he wouldn’t make it for Lexi’s big show. This week's Euphoria is almost entirely focused on Zendaya's Rue, who, upon receiving an intervention courtesy of her girlfriend and her mother, goes on the run. The firefight ended with Fezco taking a bullet to the stomach and Ash’s death. Police raided Fez’s apartment, and Ash barricaded himself in the bathroom with several guns. Custer’s plan failed when Ash realized something was up and killed Custer. Custer decided to rat out Fez’s drug operation after he got picked up for unrelated charges, and he wanted Faye to help him to get Fez to confess to Mouse’s murder. It was through this that Fez took Faye into his house at the request of his friend Custer.įez taking in Faye ended up being more of a problem than anything, though not by any fault of hers. Fez disposed of Mouse’s body after his brother Ash killed the dealer and took over his operations after visiting a previously unknown drug kingpin, Martha Kelly. Cal got arrested, and Nate watched his father get arrested by the officer.įezco’s story always operates outside the realm of high school, and most of what he did in Euphoria Season 2 took place in his apartment. After a brief conversation and brandishing a gun, Nate revealed to his father he called the cops and gave them a hard drive of all of his footage of having sex with prostitutes and possibly Jules. Nate then left and found his father, who was entertaining some new friends at his business. ![]() Nate broke up with Cassie, using her alleged knowledge of the content of Lexi’s play as an excuse. In the finale of Euphoria Season 2, Nate left midway through Lexi’s play after a scene that seemed to make fun of him and the other jock’s sexuality. Nate spent most of the season trying to deal with that and juggle some of the personal demons he’s fought since Season 1. He also went through a lot, including being violently beaten up by Fezco, and seeing his father, Cal, abandon the family. Nate entered a relationship with Cassie, all whilst quietly trying to reconcile with Maddie. Nate Jacobs is one of Euphoria’s most problematic characters, and Season 2 didn’t start off too great either. ![]()
